The management of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, has put smiles in the faces of over 24,000 rural families around the nation with the completion of the first phase of the Rural Electrification Fund (REF).

The relief of the families is easy to imagine as they are now enjoying better lives with their ability to use electricity in their homes, recharge their phones to communicate with distant relations and also watch television. Children can now study and prepare better for their examinations.

According to the release from REA, completion of the first phase of the Rural Electrification Fund has successfully deployed 12 solar hybrid mini grids in various parts of the nation, thereby connecting over 24,000 households as well as the deployment of 19,000 solar homes systems (SHS).

While in the process of deploying the mini grids, REA reported that it was able to create 5000 direct jobs for the rural dwellers.

The completed mini grid projects include 100kWp mini grid in Eka Awoke Community in Ebonyi State, 80kWP mini grid in Upake Community in Kogi State as well as 100kWp mini grid in Adebayo Community in Edo State and 100kWp mini grid in Akpabom Community in Akwa Ibom State.
