Olorunsogo 1 Power Plant from 18MW to 266MW Power Generation

The managements of both Ughelli and Egbin Power Generating stations have made public how they have improved their power generation into the national grid from 150MW to 630MW and 680MW to over 1000MW respectively, the current news in circulation is the generation increase coming from Olorunsogo 1 and Omotosho 1 Power Stations.

The management of Sepco-Pacific Energy Partners, the new private sector owners of the Olorunsogo Phase 1 Power Plant, Ifo, Ogun State just disclosed a 1377% increase, post- privatization output into the national grid.

According to informed sources, as at Friday, 1st November 2013 handover of the power assets, Olorunsogo Phase 1 Power Plant had only one of seven units generating an average of 18MW into the national grid.

The amazing story is that as at Wednesday, 30th September, 2015, the entire seven units have been made available and generating 266MW (1377% increase) into the national grid. This, according to the source, is evidence that power asset privatization has positively impacted on the nation’s power system.

Similarly, the management of Omotosho Electric Power Limited, new private sector owners of the Omotosho Phase 1 Power Plant, Okitipupa, Ondo State has also turned around the fortunes of the station, post privatization.

While on Friday, 1st November 2013 handover, the Omotosho Phase 1 Power Plant had only three of its eight units generating an average of 50.26MW into the national grid, The company reports that as at Wednesday, 30th September, 2015, the entire eight units have been rehabilitated and producing over 270MW (437.2% increase) into the national grid.

According to the source, there are still constraints such as gas supply limitations, incessant load reduction demand, grid instability and inadequate invoice/payment among others which need to be addressed by the relevant bodies in the power sectors to further boost the power generators output.
